Belmont Social Services Project
A team of school based social workers are available to all students and their families to provide long-term direct and individualized assistance. An interdisciplinary team, comprising school based social workers (Family Support Specialists, FSS), teachers, and academic directors ensure that every child receives the necessary services relating to their academic progress and physical and mental health. This team approach guarantees seamless communication between school professionals and our students' families, thus strengthening the school-home connection.
This project includes a repetition of supportive, preventive, and instructive programs, which are integrated and practiced daily. The FSS also maintains close and regular contact with the family to keep them posted on the progress of their child behaviorally, emotionally, and academically. When necessary, the FSS supports the family in developing healthy habits including regular medical exams, proper nutrition, hygiene, and adequate, consistent rest.
In some cases, a family's problems are beyond the capacity of the FSS to successfully intervene. In these cases, the FSS enlists the assistance of one ore more dedicated specialists of an outside agency supported by the Project with expertise in particular areas of service. These specialists work in a coordinated team approach with the FSS to ensure a seamless web of services for the family through direct assistance or when necessary, referrals to and coordination with the larger system of care.
